About Singapore Syllabus Grammar
Grammar forms a core component of the Singapore primary school English curriculum. From Primary 1 through Primary 6, students progressively build their understanding of English grammar rules, starting with basic sentence construction and advancing to complex sentence structures, comprehension cloze techniques, and synthesis and transformation exercises.
The Singapore English curriculum emphasises systematic progression. In the lower primary years (Primary 1 and Primary 2), students learn foundational concepts such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, simple tenses, and basic sentence patterns. As they advance to Primary 3 and Primary 4, the curriculum introduces more nuanced topics including continuous tenses, subject-verb agreement with tricky subjects, prepositions of place and time, and the distinction between countable and uncountable nouns.
Upper primary students in Primary 5 and Primary 6 tackle advanced grammar concepts that prepare them for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). These include conditional sentences, reported speech, active and passive voice transformations, relative clauses, and the subtle differences between similar grammatical structures. Mastering these topics requires consistent practice and clear explanations of why answers are correct or incorrect.
Each topic includes a structured lesson explaining the grammar rule, practice questions with instant feedback, and a comprehensive assessment to measure understanding. Whether your child needs to revise a specific topic or work through the entire curriculum, these resources provide targeted support without the cost of tuition or assessment books.
These resources are also suitable for students following an international English curriculum or any primary English grammar programme, as the core grammar concepts are universal across curricula.
