Singular & Plural Nouns

Singular means one. Plural means more than one. When we have more than one thing, we add -s to the noun.

When to Use

  1. One thing: "I have a cat." (singular -- just one)
  2. More than one: "I have two cats." (plural -- more than one)

How to Form

To make a noun plural, add -s at the end.

Remember: Just add -s to the end of the word!

Key Rules

  1. Singular means one: When you talk about one thing, use the singular noun. "I see a bird."
  2. Plural means more than one: When you talk about two or more, add -s. "I see three birds."
  3. Look for number words: Words like two, three, four, many, and some tell you to use the plural form with -s.

Clue Words

Tip: If you see a number bigger than one, add -s to the noun!

Practice Tips

  1. Count and check: Read the sentence. Find the noun. Is there a number or a word like "many"? If yes, add -s to the noun.
  2. Say it out loud: Say "one cat, two cats." Hear the -s sound at the end? That tells you it is plural.
